Several times over the course of Mizzou's Greek history, fraternal organizations have found themselves without a council to align. After two years of being a recognized student organization the women of the Beta Beta Chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma began preliminary talks with Multicultural Affairs Center Director, Pablo Mendoza, to develop awareness in Mizzou's campus and Greek community of the different kinds of Cultural Greek Organizations. In 2005 the initial constitution for a Multi-Cultural Greek Council was written, after which Greek Life and the three existing Greek Councils were approached regarding adding a fourth council. The Multi-Cultural Greek Council gained formal recognition on April 12, 2006, after three and a half years of initiatives by the Beta Beta chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma. Currently, the Alpha Phi Gamma colony is recognized as the second member of the Multi-Cultural Greek Council, joining in January of 2006. The Multicultural Greek Council was founded to serves as a home for all organizations who share our interest in culture awareness.
